An Unforgettable Day

Make the first day a memorable one. The first impression made on this day by a teacher is very important to make it memorable.

Meeting strangers is exciting and intimidating for both students and teachers. You could make the meeting more effective; get to know each other using a simple introductory session. Many teachers avoid the embarrassment on the first day by not spending enough time on the introduction and give assignments, or hand out a syllabus instead. This postpones the inevitable. The aim of the teacher from day one should be on how a constructive learning climate can be made.

Exercises called “icebreakers” could be introduced to help out in such a situation. Start by asking questions to the students, make each person do an informal introduction; play a few games; get the students introduce one another; all this can help to reduce the vastness. Introduction of the teacher is a major part .Children are interested to know about their teacher as a real person, and only this can make for a constructive environment to learn better. There should be a good understanding. The enthusiasm and willingness of the teacher can hasten the learning process by encouraging students

A well designed syllabus can help in clarifying expectations. This also creates a sense of knowledge among the students. Asking questions to students would encourage them to pay more attention to detail. At the end of the first class it is necessary to give the students an opportunity to write their experiences about their first day. This could help build up a wonderful learning environment.
