Bring Extra Passport Photos

August 28, 2007

During my brief eight-month RTW, a grand total of 14 passport photos were required for various visa applications and country immigration offices.
Having passport photos taken “on the spot” would have gotten quite pricey, especially due to those good ‘ole economic laws of supply and demand. Fortunately, I had a nice supply in my day pack. Before I left home, I had scanned in my original passport photo and had printed out like 30 copies on a decent ink jet.
Most countries aren’t picky about size, quality, and details (I had glossy and mat). In my experience so far only the United States has been anal retentive and required “perfectly pure” passport photos for a visa application.
So, as a money saving tip and as a convenient time saver, carry (depending on your trip) lots of extra passport photos. You’ll be glad you did.
